Our story

At First Gear, our story began with one goal: to make buying your first car feel exciting, safe and supported. For too long, first time drivers and parents have had to navigate confusing information, uncertain car history, and high pressure sales. We set out to change that.

Starting as a local business in Kent, we now work with trusted partners across the UK to offer a smooth, confidence building experience for new drivers and their families. Every car we select is chosen for first time drivers in mind: reliable, affordable, low insurance, and trustworthy.

We are not another car dealership.
We are a support system for people taking one of the biggest steps in early driving life, offering guidance, reassurance and transparency at every stage.

I started First Gear because buying your first car should feel exciting, not overwhelming.

After years of working in the motor trade, I saw how difficult it really was for first time drivers and parents to find honest advice, fair prices and cars they could genuinely trust. I saw young people being rushed into decisions they didn't fully understand, and families feeling unsure about who to rely on. And I kept thinking, there has to be a better way to do this, someone for these families to go to for the tailored experience they need.

So I built First Gear to be the trusted business needed to fill the gap in the motor trade industry. A place where young people and their parents aren't pressured, where trust actually means something, and where every single car is chosen with the same care I would want for my own children.

This business means a lot to me. I have built it from scratch, late nights, planning, refining, and doing everything organically, the right way, even when it takes longer. Every car on our website is one I have personally chosen, checked, and prepared with first time drivers in mind. Reliability, safety and value come before everything else.

What matters most to me is that you drive away feeling confident, informed and supported, not confused or sold to. Whether you're a learner buying your first car, someone who has just passed, or a parent trying to make the right choice, my promise is simple:

I will treat you the way I would want someone to treat my own family.
